  Scheduling Issues

Hi, My name is Lou and I am a Brownie Troop Leader...

Hi Lou

Last summer, we learned my Daughter had to move up to Brownies, but the current Brownie Troop at our school was moving up, so she would have had to join a troop at another school. I volunteered to lead a troop and have been a leader for several months now.

There's an event the girls have been looking forward to for awhile called World Thinking Day. When I made my sports schedule, I failed to look at the Girl Scout schedule. Bike Sebring is February 19 - 20 and I convinced the family that they should come down with me and they can go to Disney while I'm racing. A couple days ago, I rechecked the date for the World Thinking Day and realized it is either the 19th or 20th. As of the last communication, they hadn't locked down the date. So...I definitely cannot go, and yes, I would rather ride my bike for 24 hours than spend 3 hours in the midst of a gaggle of girls. Now, the family will have to decide if they are staying home so Q can attend the Girl Scout event or if they are coming down to FL for a mini Disney Vacation.

Another conflict has come up as well. I would like to do a triathlon in Webster, Mass with my dad, and cousin. The race website doesn't have a 2011 date set yet. I've found on other websites that it is scheduled for June 18th or 19th, but I don't know if that's definite. I've already signed up for the National 24 Hour on the same date. ARGH.

Finally, my dad has signed up for the JSM Cheap, Fast, and Not So Easy on Memorial Day weekend. If I were to do that, the kickoff, and the 30K TT, I would be traveling up to Jersey 3 weekends in a row. That's a lot of driving.

  You Are The Last Dragon...

I had planned to join Chuck & Crista on their weekend century ride today, but when I woke up, it was raining. I set up the trainer in front of the TV and started pedaling. With the help of Hot Tub Time Machine and the 2010 Hawaii Ironman, I was able to make it through the first two hours. I took a break to have a quick breakfast and got back on the bike for another hour. I was really struggling so I put on Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon and that helped me get through another hour. Afterwards, I did some core work and some yoga.

I recently purchased The Triahtlete's Training Bible and I leafed through that to try to plan my workouts for the season. It's going to take time to get that worked out. I also registered for a couple more events. Here's my schedule for 2011:
Feb. 19 - 20: Bike Sebring (http://bikesebring.org/)
Starts out with 3 laps on the famed Sebring race course, then one time around a 90 mile loop, followed by multiple laps of an 11 mile loop. At 6:30 pm we switch to the race track and crank out as many laps as we can before 6:30 am rolls around. Don't let the flat course fool you, the race is difficult because there is no coasting. I'll be taking the family along and dropping them off at DisneyWorld before the race.

May 15: Jersey Shore Kick off (http://www.jsmultisport.com/race_05-1516-10.shtml)
Sprint Distance Tri in Toms River, NJ. 0.4 mile bay swim, 10 mile bike, 3.5 mile run

May 22: Jersey Shore Time Trial 30 K (http://www.jsmultisport.com/)
It's a flat time trial from Seaside Heights south to Island Beach State Park and back. I'm not sure if I'm going to do this one, but I'd like to.

June 12: 1 mile Chesapeake Bay Swim (https://www.lin-mark.com/RaceDetails.aspx?guid=5f65cbca-b14f-47a1-9a2c-e0356987ea7b)
Stevensville, MD Registration opens in Feb. I'll need the long distance swimming experience.

June 18-19 National 24 Hour Challenge (http://www.n24hc.org/)
This is in Middleville, MI, I did it several years ago and the scenery was nice. There are many participants, so it feels really fun.

July 11 - 30 Ridge of the Rockies Tour. www.pactour.com
1943 miles from Kalispell, MT to Albuquerque, NM

Sept. 11: Great Atlantic Ocean Triathlon (http://www.jsmultisport.com/)
Sprint distance tri in seaside heights, NJ.

Oct. 2: Ironman 70.3 Poconos Tri (http://www.ironmanpoconomountains.com/)
Swim in the Delaware river, bike in the scenic (and hilly) Poconos, run around Stroudsburg

The "A" race here is the 70.3 Ironman. The 24 Hour events would be "B" Priority and the Sprint distance tri's are my "C" races.

I've gone through kidney failure twice. The first time in 2000, my mother donated a kidney; and again in 2008, I'm on dialysis waiting for a breakthrough in immuno-suppression medicines before seeking a new kidney.
