2004 UMCA World Championship 24 Hr TT
I should be in Iowa right now, finishing up the UMCA 24 Hour Time Trial Championship, but it was canceled. It was canceled because a trucker ran over the race director (David Holmes) a couple of months ago. I've never met David Holmes, but I would have liked to. I'll lift a bottle of Gatorade to you Dave as I ride today. I'll savor the sunshine. I'll enjoy the breeze. I'll live this ride.
In 2001, after my transplant, I really understood the second chance I had been given and every ride was sweeter. I can't thank Lon Haldeman and Susan Notorangelo enough for letting me ride on their Northern Transcontinental ride. I drank in the world on that ride. I was inebriated by amazing greens shimmering under a light rain in the Cascades. The list could go on and on, but I'll ride today and taste the world again. Thanks for giving back to the sport Dave.
According to the MD State Police, the Labor Day weekend is second only to New Years Eve for traffic accidents due to drunk drivers.
To all my fellow cyclists, be safe out there.
